From the glitz and glamor of Hollywood to the bright lights of Broadway, the entertainment industry is constantly evolving. It offers a wealth of opportunities for those passionate about creativity and storytelling. Actors, in particular, have to work hard to make a name for themselves and stand out among the crowd. One actor who struggled to become a recognized name is John D Hickman.
Tuscaloosa native, John, has come a long way from his humble beginnings in the small town of Gordo, Alabama. Growing up in a modest household, he dreamed of becoming an actor. Still, in a rural town with limited opportunities, his parents didn’t see a future for him in acting and always encouraged him to take up his family business. Despite this, John never gave up on his passion, nurturing it in his heart with hope and patience as he waited for the right moment and an opportunity to arrive.
His love for acting took the backseat when he became a father to his precious daughter. He gave it his all to make her life comfortable, working various jobs to make ends meet, including a night shift at a plant and a day shift at his family’s company. It wasn’t until his daughter graduated from the University of Alabama that John decided to pursue his passion. His rise to fame is nothing short of extraordinary.
It was fate when John came across a charity auction benefiting the children’s hospital of Los Angeles, where the creator of HBO’s True Blood offered a walk-on role on the show. Being a massive fan of the show, John decided to bid, and won the part. When he and his wife, Natalia, arrived on set, Natalia was also asked to be on the scene with him. It was just the beginning of John’s Hollywood journey.
John’s performance on True Blood led to more opportunities, including a werewolf role on the CW’s, The Originals, and the chance to play Mr.Fell in the final three episodes of The Vampire Diaries. He also appeared in indie films and on HBO’s Westworld.
John’s story is a true testament to the power of grit and determination. He went from a small town in Alabama to Hollywood’s bright lights, proving that anything is possible with hard work and perseverance.
