Have you ever thought about how you may have inadvertently impacted 70% of our planet? Yes, the oceans are a whopping seventy percent of the earth’s surface, and most of you probably have never given much consideration to what goes around in them, let alone what we do to them.
Jason Borkland is an ocean advocate and content creator who is working hard to change this fact. Hailing from Austin, Texas, he admits to once possessing the same level of ignorance and unawareness of marine life. But his wanderlust led him to explore the fantastic wonders of the underwater world and paved his way to becoming a powerful voice for ocean conservation.
You see, very few such brave men and women channel their energies to venture into uncharted territories, trying to explore every corner of the earth and make the world a better place with every adventure. Jason’s passion for adventure has taken him to cliff diving in Jamaica, riding his custom-built Yamaha Superjet, Heliski in Telluride, and experiencing the thrill of flight with Sky Combat Ace out of Las Vegas. It has also connected him to life deep underwater, where he is seen swimming with sharks and all the other majestic oceanic creatures.
As a PADI master diver, his adventures in the oceans are frightening and yet impressive as he makes sure to connect people with his experiences through videography to further his passion for ocean advocacy.
That passion is beautifully captured and shared with his audience on social media. Scientific communities also use his images for marine life research and conservation.
As someone who is entirely swept by the sheer glory of the world below the sea, Jason has made it his mission to raise his voice for marine life. So many important oceanic species, like sharks, are being slaughtered by humans, which is causing a drastic decline in major fish populations and marine ecosystems. Marine conservation is far more than just a scientific problem; every person needs to do their bit to save the oceans and the lives of those living in them.
According to Jason, his adventures through nature have completely changed his life. They have stirred newfound feelings of love for underwater creatures in him and propelled him to protect this world fiercely. Today, he participates in funding and speaking engagements and collaborates with non-profits working for marine conservation. He is also actively involved in sharing his underwater photography and videography skills with his audience of nearly 50k followers, to tell them to ‘Enjoy, but please PROTECT!”
He is truly a man on a mission. No matter how salty or dark it gets, Jason is determined to take ocean advocacy to a whole new level with a documentary outlining the potential threats to the oceans.
