How to Become an Intimacy Captain with Intimacy Coordinators of Color Program, Explains the Founder, Ann James

Ann James has been working as an intimacy coordinator for the global entertainment industry. She has been a part of many projects and has acquired much knowledge concerning the art of intimacy. She has worked alongside many big names like Will Ferrell, Cynthia Enrivo, Issa Rae, Rashida Jones, Ben Pratt, and Mark Wahlberg. She has also created a company that consults and provides a platform for people of color to become intimacy coordinators and educate themselves via special programs and classes.

Ann always wanted to teach and do performing arts, but she could never decide between the two, so she looked for ways to incorporate the Performing Arts and education into her career. That is when she found the realm of intimacy coordinating, which helps actors and actresses perform provocative and steamy scenarios with comfort and proper consent. Ann’s online program at Intimacy Coordinators of Color gives solutions to training and mentorship to candidates who want to be directors, coordinators, or Intimacy Captains in the entertainment industry.

The ICOC professionals have the following training and qualifications:

  • Mental health and first aid certification (3 years)
  • Anti-sexual harassment training
  • Bystander intervention training
  • Course and training equivalent of ICOC approach
  • Cultural bias training
  • Anti-racism training
  • Justice equity diversity inclusion training

Ann also gives training to people new to the intimacy coordinator realm. She offers two levels of training for her students who want to delve into the art of intimacy. The first level, or part one of this course, has a rudimentary level of information and training on the basics of intimacy coordination. Three hours of classes are to be attended, followed by an exam, after which the students are awarded a certificate of completion.

The advanced level of this course is also available to sharpen your skills as an intimacy coordinator for the entertainment business. You must have the first certificate for proof of completion to apply for the advanced classes. The classes in this course span two hours, followed by a concluding exam. A certificate is then presented to the students to keep as proof of their accomplishments and apply for opportunities in the realm of entertainment.
