The azaleas

Azaleas can be deciduous or evergreen. In Japan it is a very popular plant that is often used to create bonsai. It is popularly known as “the royalty of the garden” for its brightly colored flowers and deep green foliage. Azaleas are flowering shrubs in the Ericaceae family , they are rhododendrons and are part of the genus Rhododendron .

How does flowering work in the azalea?

Azaleas bloom throughout the spring and their flowers can last a few weeks (in May and June in the northern hemisphere, and in December and January in the southern hemisphere). That means that at a certain point, some flowers will start to fade while new flowers will continue to appear.

The secret of its flowering in two easy steps

If you want to help your azalea bonsai bloom profusely, you can follow these two simple steps:

  1. Azalea flowers that have already faded should be removed to make way for the new flowers. You can easily do it using your fingers, this step does not require any special tools.
  2. When removing the withered flower, we will have the pistil, which we must cut with pincer scissors .

We explain it to you in a video

In order for you to understand it better and in a more visual way, we have created a video that will allow you to learn these simple steps that we explained to you just now.

With this small gesture your azalea will be ready to continue blooming with all its splendor.
